Camping and outdoors is one of the most basic hobbies that allow everyone to get out and see the natural beauty our great country. Camping and outdoors activities have always been a fun way to entertain and educate the family without costing a fortune. With thousands of national, state and public parks you have many choices for camping and outdoor activities.

Lots of folks, especially those of us a bit older,  prefer the ease and convenience of recreational vehicles (RV's) to see the natural beauty our great country offers. From magnificent motor coaches, fifth wheel trailers, to pop up campers, RVs offer quick setup and modern conveniences (like air conditioning) for easy camping and outdoor living. Weekend getaways are not so tough with one of these.

RV Camping | The easy way to enjoy nature

If you used to think that the only way to go camping was with a backpack and basic equipment. As I got older, the backpack and hiking equipment made way to truck camping with a bigger tent, campstove, tarps, and every manner of gear to make camping a bit more enjoyable. Finally time restraints and the problem of rounding up all the gear made it necessary to find a better solution. That's when I discovered the conveniences of RV camping.

A friend of mine had a nice 26 foot pull behind camper that he stored all his camping gear and bedding in. All it took to head out was get your groceries, hook up the camper and set out for the campsite. This greatly appealed to me but I wondered about the expense.

Camping and Hiking | Really Get Back to the Land

Plenty of people love camping and hiking is a way to really get away from it all. Taking your RV to a fine state or national park is nice, but to get the best experience camping and hiking is the ultimate experience. Whether it be an overnight hike and camp, or camping and hiking the entire Appalachian trail,  you will see mother nature's best when you are off the beaten path.

When I think of camping and hiking, the first thing that comes to mind is the Great Smoky Mountains. The abundance of vegetation is amazing. Some scientists think there may be up to 100,000 different species of plants and animals living in the 800 square mile area. While camping and hiking in the Rockies has its own beauty, ruggedness and magnificent peaks, the Smokies provide their own set of challenges. Thick laurel (rhododendron), treacherous bluffs, and soft soils can get you in trouble far off the path.

Freshwater Fishing

One of the greatest hobbies for relaxing and stress relief is fishing. Since most of us live in landlocked states that only leaves freshwater fishing is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to enjoy fishing. Freshwater fishing includes just about any sizable body of water like lakes or ponds and of course rivers, streams and creeks.

What kind of tackle do you need for freshwater fishing? The simplest answer is a rod, some fishing line, a hook and bait. Of course you might want to consider a reel of some sort to extend what they call the “coverage area”.  There are other option such as nets, trot lines, traps, and limb lines depending on the species you want to catch. Most freshwater fishing targets bass, crappie, sunfish, catfish, pike, and perch. There are other speciality species and rough fish such as carp but for most of us the game species are the primary targets.
